Throughout the book Life of Pi, Pi continued to look for religion for survival. Religion gave him the hope and the will to survive for so long even though he was likely to die. Yann Martel uses Pi’s three separate religions to represent the will he has to survive.

Throughout PI’s journey in Yann Martel’s text, The Life of Pi, religion is used to occupy his mind and give him hope when he otherwise would have none, because religion forces him to believe in something he cannot see, which is similar to the hope he will need to make it to land in his journey.
